I have always been a hands on fix it type of person. I've always had a love for tools and figuring out how things work. Most of my fix it and build it experience has been more general construction related with house projects and such. I have done tile, carpet, drywall, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping, etc. I've done those things in my own homes and for friends and family at theirs. I'm always willing to lend a hand and teach people what I know about tools. Sometimes I'm even willing to loan some of my tools out.
It wasn’t until Crystal was pregnant with our first daughter that I thought about doing some woodworking. I decided that I would build her a crib. I didn't have much experience with the more accurate work of woodworking but decided I'd give it a shot. I found a set of plans online for a nice crib and started my new adventure. I owned a miter saw, but didn't have a table saw or other essential tools. I did some homework on table saws (more in another post) and purchased one. I'm a big fan of pawn shops and classified ads and so when I was purchasing the table saw from a gentlemen in Utah county from a classified ad, he also had a router table for sale. As that is a critical piece of equipment to have, I purchased that as well. Now I had some of the basic tools I could get to work.
There was a lot to learn on this first project. I likely bit off more that I knew when starting on it. If I were to build another crib I'm sure it would take me far less time as I was learning each step along the way. This blog is mostly for me to record what I've done, and have a repository of my projects, but is also to share what I've learned along the way. I hope anyone who reads it will learn something.
